This hardy terrestrial orchid has lavender-purple flowers that look like miniature Catleya.
It is a deciduous perennial that bears up to four oblong, lance shaped leaves per shoot.
It over-winters as a tight bunch of underground pseudobulbs that look like flattened tubers.
The pseudobulbs are joined to each other by cylindrical rhizomes.
After several years, a large clump is formed and looks quite stunning when in flower.
