Streptocarpus is a large genus of plants, found in South Africa.
The rosette forming perennial species are the parents of the modern day hybrids.
The common name, Cape Primrose, is a bit of a misnomer, as it is not related at all to primrose, but instead is a gesneriad.
Examples of other gesneriads are African Violets (also not related to violets), Gloxinias and goldfish plant.
