Window Plant

Name: Fenestraria rhopalophylla subsp. aurantiaca (Aizoaceae)
Common Names: Baby's Toes, Window Plant

Flower

This extreme succulent from Southern Africa grows pairs of short tubular leaves that are mostly underground, save for the very tops which have a triangular shaped "window" that lets light into the leaf for photosynthesis. In the Autumn, it produces white (or yellow in some varieties) flowers that look like daisies. Unlike the compound flowers of daisies, each flower is a single flower with a whorl of petals.
