Red Hot Poker

Name: Kniphofia (Asphodelaceae)
Common Name: Red Hot Poker

Red Hot Poker

This hardy clumping perennial is another favourite of old gardens. In the Spring and right through Summer, it produces flower spikes with hundreds of small flowers. The orange buds mature to yellow when the flower opens. The name "Red Hot Poker" comes from the times when coal was burned and the flower spike looks like a "red hot poker".
