Lupins

Name: Lupinus polyphyllus (Fabaceae)
Common Name: Lupin

Blue

Gallery blue is a dwarf lupin.

Russell lupins is a strain bred by George Russell by crossing the perennial Lupinus polyphyllus with more colourful annual species to produce a perennial lupin with bright colourful flowers. This old favourite produces tall stately spikes of mostly bi-coloured flowers in the spring, usually with many colour variations on different plants. It sometimes flowers in the first season, but best flowering is from the second.

Almost all of today's bedding lupin varieties are variations and selections from Russell lupins. This includes the gallery series, a dwarf strain that is low growing.
