Sisyrinchium californicum

Name: Sisyrinchium californicum (Iridaceae)
Common Name: Yellow Bluegrass

Flower

This hardy perennial, a primitive iris, produces masses of star shapped flowers in late Spring and Summer. Each flower lasts only one day but is replaced by a succession of flowers, much like a daylilly. The blue-green grass like foliage provides good contrast to the yellow flowers. It grows to only 20 cm tall and is ideal for rockeries or to cheer up paths. It is tolerant of poor soils and self-seeds profusely.
